With a heavy mist hanging over the south, and the threat of rain, Thorney Island was no exception. However by 9.30 the mist had cleared into what turned out to be a beautiful sunny spring day, with warm temperatures and a gentle breeze.

Sgt. Kevin Britton and his team had prepared the venue perfectly, as requested by the Lionheart team. We thank Kevin and the Thorney Island Saddle Club for allowing us the use of their facilities, which proved to be very popular with all of the competitors. And especially Lt. Col. Kelly R. A., without who's permission this show could not have taken place.

I spent the whole day relaxed, without a single complaint or problem to deal with, and had many, many compliments from everyone on such a lovely venue and great show, from competitors and judges alike.  I pass these compliments on to Kevin and his team at the Saddle Club who made it all possible.

Overall Supreme of show was won by Mrs. June Whitham with her beautiful New Forest Mare Woodrow April Delight, who was in the best of condition and summer coat. When presented with her trophy and prize money, she said: "I never expected to win any money today, so I shall donate it to my pet charity, the local Air Ambulance Service". HOW NICE IS THAT?

On the whole, a great time was had by all, and many have now qualified for Royal London, NPS Summer Champs, IMHPS MHOYS, and SWPA Champs. We look forward to seeing all the Royal London qualifiers at Peterborough in August.

Just to remind you all that we have three more show dates this year at Thorney Island - May 11th, June 22nd, and July 27th. These shows will be totally outside, and will include our normal full range of qualifying classes, plus Equifest qualifiers new this year.

And last but not least - out heartfelt thanks to all of our team - Andrea Dymott, Desk Secretary "par excellance"; Emma May, the Chief Steward every show secretary would like to have on board, and all the judges, stewards and helpers including Lesley, Christy, Sheridan, Alice and Bill, without whom our shows would not be so happy and successful

Peter Nichols,
Show Director
